Dive # 292

Date: November 15, 2006
Time: 6:00am
Location: Diver's Cove
Depth (feet): 36
Dive Time (minutes): 45
Surf (feet): 1
Surge (feet): 1
Water Temp (fahrenheit): low 60's (guess)
Visibility (feet): 10-15
Visibility Description: decent in shallow...bit murkier as we got deeper (is 36 "deeper"?)
Notes and Highlights: "Before work" dive with Scott...great way to start the day. Easy in with basically ankle slappers and we dropped down pretty quick in hopes of seeing some of the bat rays normally associated with Diver's. We didn't...but we did see a 3 foot horn shark, a decent sized octopus, and a BUNCH of good-sized, but illegally located lobsters in several of the cracks and crevices in the deeper reef between Diver's and Fisherman's...great morning dive with the sun streaming through the water...if Scott wasn't 6'5", bearded and MALE...could be romantic...gotta get the wife to check it out...

Dive # 291

Date: November 11, 2006
Time: 10:00am
Location: Deadhenge/Deadman's
Depth (feet): 62
Dive Time (minutes): 40
Surf (feet): 1-2
Surge (feet): 1
Water Temp (fahrenheit): 60
Visibility (feet): 20+
Visibility Description: Very nice, clear water
Notes and Highlights: Sole Searchers Dive club (based in LA) saw my Deadhenge video (link) online and contacted me regarding showing them where it was. Happy to do it...16 in total converged on Crescent. Conditions had gotten a bit less flat than the earlier dive, but still very manageable 1-2 foot sets. There was a bit of northwest pushing current, but the surface swim to the drop point was easy (especially for Lisa and Brad who had brought scooters). We dropped down only about a 30 second swim from the Deadhenge formation and followed it around to Deadman's reef. We broke into buddy teams at that point and most went left. I and my buddy got just around to the backside before hitting the air target - turning and heading back for the beach. Saw several short lobsters...half dozen spanish shawls and a big sheephead. 16 went in and 16 came out...uneventful exit with the nice conditions and a good time had by all!

Dive Time (minutes): 48
Surf (feet): 1
Surge (feet): 1
Water Temp (fahrenheit): 60
Visibility (feet): 20

Notes and Highlights: Dove with Josh and Scott - it was Lake Laguna on the way out - and minimal surge around the point and before Seal Rocks. Tons of garibaldi, sheephead and tree fish...an octopus, moray and a spanish shawl. Nice relaxing dive...Josh took a bunch of pictures (will update with a link when he posts them). Surf picked up to a whopping 1 foot on the exit - but we made it through.

Dive # 289

Date: November 8, 2006
Time: 5:30pm
Location: Shaw's Cove
Depth (feet): 36
Dive Time (minutes): 43
Surf (feet): 1 1/2
Surge (feet): varied...heavy in shallows - very light inside the reef
Water Temp (fahrenheit): I guess 64-65...no hood
Visibility (feet): 10-15
Visibility Description: fair - a little murky around the edges and less in shallows with heavier surge
Notes and Highlights: Dove with Scott...bless me father - it has been 4 weeks since my last dive...it was GOOD!!! to get back in the water. The surface was very rough...one of those surface swims out where you keep getting slapped in the back of the head...odd surf - coming in almost from Diver's Cove towards the beach...and rough...but not big so easy in and out. Shallow was a lot of surge with the surface chop - but once we ducked inside the reef it was almost non-existent...very, very low tide might help with the inside reef surge. It was a octopus night...at least a dozen nice two spotters out in the open - on sand and the reef. Great, easy dive through the inner passages - out to the Crescent side and back through the "window"...love that trek at night, and especially with minimum surge. Went back up the outside of the reef past turn-around and well...turned-around. Easy out and a great time had by all!
